Walk 28th April 2016 East Clandon - Dawes Dene - NDW - West Clandon

Start point:- TQ060515
Distance:- 13.3 km, 8.27 miles
Time taken:- 2 hours 53 minutes
Route:-
East Clandon Old Epsom Road - Blakes Lane - Fullers Farm - Dawes Dene - Woodcote Farm - NDW (Hanger Wood) - Old Scotland Farm - Fox Way -  West Clandon - Clandon Regis Golf Club - Old Epsom Road.

Bluebells are still out and cowslips are appearing

TQ058502 the track between two wooded areas is very uneven, and the ground may be soft when wet. At TQ052503 the path heads towards West Clandon with hedgerows on both sides. At the time of the walk, these hedges were well maintained, with easy access to the path leading across the field towards the road

Walk 21st April 2016 East Clandon - Woolgars farm - NDW (West Hanger) - Clandon regis Golf course

Route:-
East Clandon Old Epsom Road - Blake's Lane - Woolgers Farm -  Woodcote Lodge - Combe Lane - NDW (Hanger Wood) - Old Scotland Farm - Fox Way - Clandon Regis Golf Club -Old Epsom Road

I walked further along Blake's lane to Woolgars farm and took the path up towards Fullers farm to establsih if better views would be obtained using this track as opposed to route shown on the Fancyfree walks website. my conclusion is the views and interest are better using that part described in Fancyfree walks.

Again there are other small variations to be investigated.

This walk has been taken from FancyFreeWalks

I started the walk at East Clandon using off street parking in Old Epsom Road. Blake's Lane is quiet and path towards Fullers Farm gradually leads up, there are good views behind you as you walk to the farm. Combe lane will have road traffic on it but is walk-able with care. West Hanger is a nature reserve  West Hanger and other nearby sites have neolithic flint quarries that may be found. I was surprised when I got to Old Scotland farm to find the Tillingbourne brewery

 http://www.tillybeer.co.uk/

The path will take you into varied woodland, to a field from which you will see Clandon house

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clandon_Park

a grade 1 listed Palladian mansion,

unfortunately suffered extensive fire damage on the 29th April 2015. The National trust will be restoring the mansion at a high cost.

To the left you'll be able to see West Clandon church a late 12th century church with medieval roofs

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Clandon

The Fox way crosses the main A road to Guildford and passes through Clandon Regis Golf club, the signage for the footpath at times is in need of repair to be clear the direction to take.

Returning past East Clandon church dedicated to Thomas Beckett, and dates from the 11th century

Some paths can be muddy with forestry work taking place at New Scotland farm to Old Scotland farm in the woods on the left. The paths do tend to dry out fairly quickly. Bluebells are currently out and the fields either side of the Fox way have Skylarks present.

It may be worth looking at extending this walk using some others from Fancyfree walks such as Newlands Corner, Secret woods

http://www.fancyfreewalks.org/Surrey/NewlandsCorner-Woods.pdf?version=1

and linking up with Sheepleas as possible extensions either side of the east Clandon walk

Bluebells can be found in the boundary with Polesden Lacey walking north along Connicut Lane. Admirals track still has large deep puddles which can be walked around. The sign at the start walking towards Norbury Park suggests a repair but I'm not sure if they meant work in progress. Either way no evidence of repair
